HomePark TourKatanga Canyon › Runaway Mine Train
Summary
The Runaway Mine Train is a powered steel roller coaster designed to look like it has a wooden track. The ride passes through the same tunnel as the Congo River Rapids, where you'll find guests on each of the rides waving to each other. Guests are treated to two laps of the circuit and on quiet days the train may be sent round three or more times. Overall it's a great family ride built around a very well themed area.

History
When formally known Aqua Land was renamed to Katanga Canyon in 1992, The Runaway Mine Train was introduced to the new area. In July 2006 the ride made national news as the ride's train uncoupled and split into two sections, one part of the train then rolled back into the other. Guests were air lifted to hospital for precautionary reasons and treated for shock and whiplash. Fortunately, no-one was seriously hurt. An in-depth investigation followed and the ride did not re-open until April 2007.

Vickii: (4 / 5) Its ace the last time i went the queues were really short but timing in the queue is way off if it says 45 mins it basiclly means about 15 but the ride is really cool last time when i went on it. it was followed by 5 other times.

Rosie: (5 / 5) An excellent ride for children not tall enough for the 'big rides' yet. You normally get around 2 laps but sometimes the last ride of the day you...(expand)

Ollie: (5 / 5) This is a great family ride. Great for small kids on their first time rollercoaster, the best bit of the ride is when you enter the high speed tunnel that pulls a g or two. I recomend it to everyone thet visits alton towers.
