Summary
Alton Towers is the only place in the world where you can join Willy Wonka in his magical Chocolate Factory. Based on the original book by children's author Roald Dahl, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory: The Ride takes guests on a boat journey through the famous factory, but that's not all! Once the boat tour is complete, a walk into Mike Teevee's television room and a ride in Mr Wonkas very own great glass elevator will follow!

The ride can get quite busy during the day, especially around lunch time, so if you're part of a family with children who want to ride, it's advisable to get it done early on.

History
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory is the second refurbishment of a ride which first opened in 1981. The original offering, named Around the World in 80 Days, consisted of a boat ride which took guests on a magical journey through famous sights from all over the globe.

It was in 1994, when Talbot Street became The Land of Make Believe, that Around the World in 80 Days was closed and refurbished into Toyland Tours. Toyland Tours used the exact same flume ride but flaunted brightly coloured toys rather than geographical landmarks.

As Toyland Tours lost its popularity, it became more and more derelict, and in 2005 was closed in preparation for another refurbishment. This time the ride would become what we see today - Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The ride still uses the original flume, although guests depart from the ride before it makes the complete circuit that it used to.

Reviews
Ryan Frankcom: This ride wasn't REALLY worth the queue....the boat ride was cool, and the elevator was very inventive, but I'd much rather be on Nemesis, Oblivion or Air.

Jack : (3 / 5) i feel CATCF gets a lot of slack its no different to its a small world in disney or the buble works at chessington but because of its name people...(expand)

Mike: This ride is great at the end of a busy and fun filled day at Alton towers. The elevator is the best part of the ride!! Great for famillies.
