Towers Nerd Trip #13 - 2008 Open Day!

Time to announce the first trip of the 2008 season. It is of course, Alton Towers open day! With the brand new Mutiny Bay (http://www.towersnerd.com/tour/mutinybay/) area set to be open to the public, be prepared for a Battle Galleons duel!

So, the date is 15th March 2008 and as usual, those attending should meet up at the Frog Fountains in Towers Street at 10am.

This is the first trip which will be using our brand new in-built trip feature. To add yourself to the attendance list, simply do the following:

1. Go to the Towers Nerd Trips (http://www.towersnerd.com/features/trips/) page.
2. Click on "Trip #13 - 2008 Open Day".
3. On the right hand side, under "Join In", enter your community username and password.
4. Use the drop down menu under "Your Status" and select the appropriate option. Then click the "Update Status and Date Votes" button.

A list of those attending will be available from the specific trip page, here (http://www.towersnerd.com/features/trips/trip.php?id=4) :) - Please use this topic for all discussion, questions and pure excitement surrounding the trip...

As always both Lauren and I will be there, I can't wait to have some fun on (and off) the Galleons. It doesn't seem two seconds ago that we were at Scarefest.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I should be able to come that weekend (because it's my birthday on the 12th), but I'm not 100% certain due to the fact that I have a grade 6 clarinet exam the following week:unsure:. Apart from this, I'll try my best to come.

It would be great if you could make the trip, we always look forward to meeting new attendees. Can't wait for this trip. I'm just praying that there's no delays with the Galleons, I can see it being the best group ride in the park. :D

I think he got 9 by adding Lauren and Lowndesy's girlfriend to the confirmed total. If you're bringing someone along to the trip, it'd be a help if you could get them to register an account, or even do it on their behalf. That way we can get the most use out of the new trip system :)

As you will no doubt have read, Alton Towers are attempting to break the world record for the largest gathering of pirates, for more info read this thread (http://towersnerd.com/community/showthread.php?p=6110#post6110).

So we are going to join in, obviously it's completely up to yourselve's if you are going to come dressed up on the day, but it's all in good fun and aswell as making the day a bit different we'll get the chance to be part of a World Record attempt.

So far there is, Lauren, Matt, Jacob & myself who are planning on getting dressed up, so is anybody else going to join us? I'm sure Lowndesy would make a fantastic druken wench. :P ;)

I just wish that i could be there. My bike is still in lots of parts although i have ordered a few bits for it. Hopefully i will be picking them up fairly soon. If the bikes ready and i got free time ill come but atm its looking very unlikely.

Well I have just been into Derby and bought my Pirate outfit! Its a cracker! Ive got the book covers, full pirate outfit, complete with cutlas, eye patch and headband. Bit annoyed though, the lady in the shop didn't put my hat in the bag! So I have to go back tomorrow.

Anyone else dressing up aside from me, Morgan, Lauren and Matt then?

Well I've got my eye on a couple of really good looking outfits, there a bit more expensive than I would've hoped, but I think we'll use them for Halloween in Florida, so we'll get our monies worth. Hopefully I'll order them tonight. :D

I just bought an eyeliner pencil, drew lines across my face then smudged them in.

We received ours yesterday, and I'm really pleased with them. They need a good iron to get all the kinks out (even though it says not to iron them), but overall they do look really good, I've even got frilly cuffs. :lol:

Gave my costume a good iron last night, and it looks much better now. Just a shame the trousers a tad on the "snug" side. :P

Yeah, to be honest I'm doubting that they will get the numbers to break the record if that's the number needed, I don't think it's been advertised enough for them to pull it off. It maybe could've done with a quick snippet on after the TV ad, imagine how many people would turn up if they had done that, especially promising half price entry to the first 1,200.

Just out of curiosity, where did you hear that number for the record? I've had a look and I couldn't find any info about a current record, the closest I got was gathering of people dressed as Robin Hood. :P I was wondering if there is actually a current record and if this would be the first attempt at it, and therefore if only 5 people turned up dressed as Pirates it would be a new record. :lol:

I doubt they were actually going for a record, the cast probably turned up one day and the durector went... "wow, thats a lot of pirates" and it was a record. :P

Yeah i think they will be hard pushed to actually get over 1,140 as advertisment is really low. And nearly no one in my school or area knows anything about it except from what they have seen in the Sun news paper.

Yeah I'm guessing that you'll need the full outfit present and correct for when you register at the "pirate booth". They did have some pirate themed stuff on offer, but very limited and it looked like it was just some generic toys, nothing "Mutiny Bay" themed as such.

Couldn't agree more. Although it doesn't seem two seconds that we were running around the Field at Scarefest, it also feels too long since we had a trip. It's going to be a good laugh, I can tell.
